Lot 4407 18TH CENTURY SCOTTISH BACKSWORD.
A nice example of a early 18th century Backsword measuring 38" overall with a plain 32 3/4" single edged blade featuring two nearly full length fullers. The large decorated hilt has numerous pierced hearts and circles throughout with further lineal decorations to several edges. Mushroom pommel that appears original with an similar patina. Wood grip is smooth and quite early. It may be an early replacement or the original core of a wrapped grip. CONDITION: iron has a cleaned patina as with some moderate pitting to the blade and light pitting in scattered areas on the hilt. Grip shows wear with a very pleasing patina.
